My latest project has taken my creativity to new heights, painting a mural of enormous dimensions on the main facade of the regional library of Blanes, the Catalan town where I grew and flourished as an artist. This project represents a return to my roots, an opportunity to merge my passion for art with the place that saw me grow.
The artwork has sparked a sense of awe and excitement among locals, unaccustomed to witnessing this type of artistic expression. The creation process has been a spectacle that attracted both the curious and art enthusiasts alike.
This mural has become a gathering point, a place where the community comes together to admire, discuss, and share their appreciation for art. The interaction with the local audience has profoundly enriched my experience as an artist, witnessing people immerse themselves in the visual narrative I've created, establishing an emotional connection with my work.
More than just an expression of my artistic vision, the mural is also a tribute to the community that witnessed my growth. It's an honor to contribute to Blanes' cultural landscape in this way, reminding everyone of my roots and elevating my art to new heights.
The Complexity of Existence through Art
The mural is a tapestry of symbolism that delves into the intrinsic complexity of our existence—beyond the visual surface displaying the beauty of flowers and marine life, a deeply symbolic narrative unfolds, inviting contemplation of the inherent duality in our reality.
At the epicenter of this artistic representation lies the octopus, a portrayal of our physical presence, its head gleaming with a golden shell.
Symbols of great significance adorn this shell: the number 1111 represents cosmic synchronicity, a visual reminder of the harmony that manifests when aligned with the path of consciousness, connected to the deeper purpose of the universe.
Right at the octopus's forehead rests the number 3, a third eye symbol, a center of intuition and perception beyond visible reality. This third eye symbolizes access to the subconscious, a spiritual and profound understanding of the surrounding reality.
Among the symbols adorning the shell, the intertwined initials M and K evoke loved ones, family, and soulmates. These letters encapsulate the constant presence of those who, though not physically present, remain an essential part of our existence, reminding us of the transcendental connection that endures beyond physical distance, a connection sustained in the spiritual realm.
Delicate porcelain-textured fish and crab flank the octopus, serving as a reminder of the fragility of our physical existence. They act as a signal that we are more than corporeal forms, entities of energy in constant metamorphosis and evolution.
The teapot, cradled by one of the octopus's tentacles, symbolizes the mind and its ceaseless processes. The emerging steam represents the constant flow of thoughts, judgments, and limitations that disconnect us from our true essence.
Despite this mental whirlwind, the mural serves as a call to consciousness. It challenges us to recognize the complexity of our existence, to question how we operate mentally, and to seek a deeper connection with our true selves beyond self-imposed limitations.
In summary, this mural becomes a gateway to introspection, a reminder that despite the inherent fragility of our physical existence and the constant flow of thoughts, an opportunity exists to transcend, to attain a more authentic and profound understanding of our own existence.
Not to diminish its importance, but to better understand the meaning of this artwork and its location, I would like to emphasize explaining the negotiation process and the importance of investing, nurturing, and respecting your personal brand.
The initial proposal was to paint the side of a building on the bustling Blanes seaside promenade, promising to become a window to my art, exposed to the gaze of thousands of locals and tourists throughout the year.
Although the economic offer was symbolic, it represented the unique opportunity to showcase my creativity without restrictions. I meticulously prepared a detailed sketch, a reflection of my artistic vision that I hoped to bring to life. However, the initial enthusiasm was curtailed in the final meeting with the government team and the hostel owner, with the owner not captivated by my final proposal.
At that point, the negotiation turned into a dance of expectations and possibilities. The owner wished to contribute her guidelines to the project, which I enthusiastically accepted, as long as the budget was adjusted accordingly to these demands, significantly increasing and turning the collaboration into a conventional commissioned project.
However, this unexpected turn left no options for a mural for the festival, a moment of uncertainty that led me to communicate to the Ajuntamiento team that, unfortunately, I could not participate in the event due to the alternative walls offered that did not align with my artistic vision.
That's when the possibility of the regional library arose, a wall that had always captivated me with its unique architecture. Despite its considerable size, five times larger than the original facade, I argued that this location had the necessary strength to house my design and offer a significant visual impact.
After intense deliberations and days of reflection, the Ajuntamiento agreed, granting me permission to capture my vision on the library's main wall. The proposal not only enchanted the team but also opened doors to transform the library into a meeting point for urban art enthusiasts.
