Here I am, diving into this new blog adventure with my second post, and truth be told, I want to take this opportunity to chat a bit more about this whole thing of why I'm here writing to you. You see, this path I've embarked on, of opening up and communicating in a different way with you, didn't just come out of nowhere. It's been a rollercoaster of situations, reflections, and, let's not sugarcoat it, some frustrations too.
Life as an artist, my friends, is beautiful but complicated. Though it may seem like we live in a bubble of creativity and passion, the reality is we have to deal with the same daily concerns as everyone else. Yes, including those bills that arrive without fail every month and the rent that doesn't pay itself. Some think we're some kind of magicians who, with a snap of our fingers, make money appear. If only it were that way, but no, we're in the same boat as everyone else, navigating this vast ocean that is life, trying not to get our butts bitten by a great white shark.
At this point, I want to touch on a topic that's been on my mind: social media, especially Instagram. It's been an incredible tool for connecting with you, showing you my work, my day-to-day, my inspirations. But guys, things have changed. It's no secret that now, no matter how much one wants to reach their people, it feels like you're shouting into a desert. And not because there's no one on the other side, but because the rules of the game have changed. There you have Instagram, playing the bad cop, deciding who sees what. And though I understand it's a private company and their business, I can't help feeling something about that isn't quite right. I've built my community from the ground up, with my effort, my art, and suddenly, I find myself at a crossroads, having to rethink how I continue sharing my world with you.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not here to deliver a bitter speech. Quite the opposite. This change has made me think a lot about that famous Albert Einstein quote:
"Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."
And this is where this blog and my newsletter come in. The idea of depending on a platform that can change the rules of the game overnight, or worse, disappear, doesn't sit well with me. I want something more direct, something more ours, without intermediaries deciding what you see or don't see.
The challenge is big, I won't lie to you. In a fast world where anything lasting more than three seconds already seems like an eternity, asking you to follow me here is asking for a leap of faith. But, you know what? I think it's worth a try. Before, the idea was that if you wanted exclusive content from me on Instagram, you had to pay. Now, I want all that content, and more, to be available to you for free, here and through my emails. I want this to be our space, where we can share without filters, without algorithms deciding for me.
Social media is a window to the world, yes, but if that window closes, I have to be ready to open a new one. And that new window is this blog. So, I invite you to join this adventure. This is a call to all those who still believe in art, in the stories behind each piece, in the value of an authentic connection beyond likes and followers.
Let's prove there's still room for real content, for those creations that come from the heart and seek more than just a fleeting moment of attention. If that sounds good to you, stick around. I promise it's going to be an interesting journey.
See you soon:)
